03.11.2013 · Our chilies are back… a new batch with island love

A few weeks ago, a splendid pile of new chilies arrived fresh off the plane from the Island of Lanzarote. For us, it is always a magical moment to see a mountain of chilies from the Finca la Sarantontona. When looking at the chilies, we are instantly transported to the farm.

We know the Sarantontona finca and its owners well. Dominika and Jose Maria believe in sustainable and organic agriculture, as well as in animal welfare. They are some of the nicest people on this planet, too. Add to this the island’s lava soil, relentless sun and ocean winds and you have the perfect conditions for chilies that simply seem to burst in their freshness and flavor.

A few hours later, the chilies were hand cut and freeze dried in the specialist facilities we always use. The company Paradiesfrucht is known for high quality food processing and comes with all the certificates. The folks there are really great, too, by the way. Hand cutting is a huge amount of work, so if anyone ever comes up with a nifty machine for chili cutting, we will be immensely grateful.

Between Dominika and Jose, the food processing people and us, a lot of love goes into our The Love of Chilies. So go ahead and order our new batches. And enjoy them. We will, too.

About us

Josefina Petrus and
Anna Yukiko Bickenbach

We love chilies; both of us from childhood. Our backgrounds could not have been more different. Josefina accompanied her parents on trips to India. Anna grew up on three continents, including on the island of Okinawa, where chilies are soaked in sake.

Both of us have had the opportunity to do many fantastic things. Josefina has produced films, coached basketball, worked for the charity platform and served as a Board Member of a British school. Anna plays serious volleyball and co-founded the ecological platform Ecotastic.

We don’t like to compromise… if it is possible to have the best quality, why do for less. And we casually relish chilies like others do candy.
