30.06.2013 · Caution low levels of chilies here at The Love of Chilies
Dear Friends of The Love of Chilies,
we have dangerously low levels of chilies here at The Love of Chilies HQ. In fact, we only have four tins left.
In the past months, we have not been able to receive any fresh produce from Lanzarote. The climate on the island has been unusual. Not only has it been much colder than usual, it also rained less. This combination is not good for our plants.
Despite the difficulties, our organic farming partners from the Finca la Sarantontona are excited. A new crop is coming along nicely now, and we are expecting ten kilos to arrive next week. It is always a thrilling experience to see so many beautiful Pequin chillies – all on one huge, deep red pile. One cannot help but feel how rich and powerful nature is.
As usual, we will cut the chilies by hand and have them freeze dried by our specialist partners. Then they have to be packaged. It will take a while for the new chilies to be available, and we could very well run out of product in the meantime. In case this happens, we wish to apologize in advance.
We have a new idea, too. Instead of producing only the hand cut chillies we will this time leave some chilies whole and freeze dry them as complete pods. We know that this is great for some dishes, such as soups or curries. Because we can save a lot of labor used for hand cutting, the whole chilies will also cost less. Do you like this idea? If you have any thoughts on this, we are happy for feedback.
We will let you know when everything is ready. Till then, enjoy the summer and don’t forget to keep up the spicy flavor.
Best Regards, Josefina and Niko.
Josefina Petrus and
Anna Yukiko Bickenbach
We love chilies; both of us from childhood. Our backgrounds could not have been more different. Josefina accompanied her parents on trips to India. Anna grew up on three continents, including on the island of Okinawa, where chilies are soaked in sake.
Both of us have had the opportunity to do many fantastic things. Josefina has produced films, coached basketball, worked for the charity platform Betterplace.org and served as a Board Member of a British school. Anna plays serious volleyball and co-founded the ecological platform Ecotastic.
We don’t like to compromise… if it is possible to have the best quality, why do for less. And we casually relish chilies like others do candy.
