23.02.2018 · Hot Spots – Launching the Real Spicy Restaurant List
You’ve been there. The disappointment. Visiting a new city in Europe or the US as a chilihead can be a rather frustrating experience.
We love that hot kick, a bowl of spicy comfort food or maybe we even need to ward off a flu with a powerful chili antidote. After researching with high hopes, googling numerous restaurants with natively spicy cuisines, our mouths water when reading the menus.
Unfortunately though, the reality is often underwhelming: Insipid chili sauces or stale, dried chili flakes. And food that is not even remotely hot. Why is that? This needs to change.
Here is our suggestion from The Love of Chilies crew on how to solve this issue: We are launching a guide showing a selection of hand-picked restaurants which have a proper response to serious requests for hot food. Maybe “guide” is a bit ambitious. The list is small, but we intend to expand it as we continue to travel and explore.
The list features places offering amazing, truly hot food or real quality spices, be it great homemade sauces, aromatic dried chili rings or fresh chilies. The list will not be about organic, vegan or vegetarian food, even though we will try to represent these restaurants as much as we can.
This is about heat and quality. We will use our taste buds as an indicator. We love really hot chilies, but we still like to taste our food.
We have said enough… here is the Hot Spots Real Spicy Restaurant List… we love spicy plates and fiery spoons.
Josefina Petrus and
Anna Yukiko Bickenbach
We love chilies; both of us from childhood. Our backgrounds could not have been more different. Josefina accompanied her parents on trips to India. Anna grew up on three continents, including on the island of Okinawa, where chilies are soaked in sake.
Both of us have had the opportunity to do many fantastic things. Josefina has produced films, coached basketball, worked for the charity platform Betterplace.org and served as a Board Member of a British school. Anna plays serious volleyball and co-founded the ecological platform Ecotastic.
We don’t like to compromise… if it is possible to have the best quality, why do for less. And we casually relish chilies like others do candy.
